Description
"Year Opened:  1976
The Mijas Golf Club is situated on the Costa del Sol / Costa del Golf in the town of Fuengirola, very close to Marbella. The complex has two 18-hole courses with different characteristics which are suitable for players of all levels; Los Lagos (“The Lakes”) and Los Olivos (“The Olive Trees”).
LOS LAGOS At 6,367 metres, this is the longest of the two courses which go to make up Mijas Golf. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Los Lagos is a course with wide fairways and few tree hazards, but which is complicated by sand traps and the 9 lakes after which it is named, so you need to be very aware of these when hitting the ball. It is a relatively even course with large, flat greens. It appears that the legendary designer wanted to create a course that was suitable for amateurs but, at the same time, he has also managed to present them with a challenge. Los Lagos is a suitable course for big hitters, but it also demands great concentration on the part of the player as well as short shots.
LOS OLIVOS Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. What makes Los Olivos different from Los Lagos, apart from the abundance of olive trees which give it its name, is that it is shorter, with fewer water hazards, and the greens are smaller, more undulating and with slopes. As both courses were designed by the same person, it is clear that he was aiming to create an interesting contrast between the two: if Los Lagos is based on sand and water hazards, the main difficulties on Los Olivos are the narrower fairways, the trees which flank them, and the raised greens."
