"Year Opened: 2003
Sanlucar Country Club is situated in the region of Las Lomas de Martín Miguel, in the municipality of Sanlucar de Barrameda, and has spectacular views of the mouth of the famous and stately River Guadalquivir, of the Doñana National Park, and of the vineyards of the province of Jerez.
The course, with its 18 holes and a par of 72, was designed by the several times Spanish champion Borja Queipo de Llano. It combines two markedly different styles: on the one hand, the first 9 holes abound with features typical of the British links-style courses, even though the course is not next to the sea, such as undulating fairways, small deep bunkers, and arid landscapes.
The second nine holes, on the other hand, feature a somewhat more “American” style; there are more water hazards (7 in total), several doglegs, and tiered greens.
The most characteristic elements of the course which are worth a special mention are the extremely high quality of the surface of the greens; the gentle undulations which make it easy to distinguish one hole from the other; the spectacular views of the Guadalquivir and the Do?ana Park; and the advanced system of rain and waste water collection using ponds with a capacity of 300,000 cubic metres.
From October onwards the course will have a putting green and a pitching green; the golf school has been operating since last year, with practice tees on natural grass; and there is a provisional clubhouse with changing rooms, caddie master, showers, pro shop, bar-restaurant and private security."
