"Cardrona village, the new Macdonald Hotel and its 18-hole championship golf course rose from the mists of the River Teviot like a modern-day Brigadoon. The course is absolutely excellent! There are still a few bunkers to go in, they have yet to work out a ‘bag-drop’ strategy when you arrive but Dave Thomas certainly knows how to create and compelling and challenging golf course. The start is a bit daunting with an uphill, amply bunkered, rough-fringed Par 5 followed by a short but mischievous Par 4, again uphill. These are not bad holes just a bit of a sudden shock to the system. After that, one of the best courses certainly in the south of Scotland unfolds."
