"Bury Golf Club was founded in 1890 and has recently celebrated its Centenary. The course was originally sited in another area of the town, Redvales, and engaged as its first professional, Harry Vardon who won the first of his Opens only months after he left Bury for Ganton.
During the First World War, Bury Golf Club was again transformed into farm land and a decision was made to move to our present site in the early 1920's. Whilst by today's standards, not a long course - 5888 yards, the need for accurate second shots resulting from the narrow approaches and strategically placed sand traps, more than compensates for its lack of length, so that the course presents a challenge to all who play it.
Bury has twice hosted the Lord Derby national tournament for Assistant Professionals and the participants were full of praise for both the condition of the course and the hospitality received.
In 1987 the Club undertook a major extension and refurbishment program and we can now offer first class locker facilities coupled with excellent catering and attractive lounges which both visitors and members can enjoy."
